Dear Colleagues and Friends,
HEIRNET 2018 is meeting next summer in Corfu with The Ionian University as our host. Feedback and consultation following HEIRNET 2017 in Dublin means HEIRNET 2018 has three new themes, 1, 5 and 11 and has revised and expanded existing themes and topics making twelve themes in all.
The 2018 conference’s twelve themes are
1 Historical Culture
2 History Education in the Age of Corporate Imperialism, Nationalism, Regionalism, Globalisation and Issues of Identity
3 History across the Curriculum:
4 History Around Us: Community, Heritage and the Environment and Issues of Identity
5 Public History
6 Thinking Historically / Cognition
7 Assessment – its Nature, Purpose and Role
8 Statutory Curriculum Documents, National Curricula and National Examinations/Testing
9 Professional Knowledge – The History Teacher’s Craft
10 The History of History Education:
11 History Education in the Early Years and Primary Phases [ages 3-11]
12 History Educational Research
Concerning theme 12 on research it now covers:
o Research and Evidence Based History Education
o Practitioner Research: The Integration of Theory and Practice
o Research methodology
o Research workshops
Delegate created workshops We encourage delegates to run 45 or 90 minute sessions on topics of their own choice. To do so please consult the website www.heirnet-heirj.com for details. Delegate created sessions, including practitioner research workshops, have proved to be most popular and successful.
Greek strand We have included a new development – a History Education strand for history educationalists from the home country.
Please consult the HEIRNET 2018 website – www.heirnet-heirj.com for full information about registration, the submission of abstracts, key dates, the conference timetable, travel, accommodation, downloads & publication of conference papers and social media provision. The conference’s papers committee will respond to abstracts within three weeks of submission.
